Our lives are full of rhythms. These rhythms form and shape us. It is important each we that we learn and grow in the rhythms of grace. At Mosaic we our rhythms of grace are formed by the story of the Gospel. Our rhythm of this week is below:

LITURGICAL READINGS:

ADORE: But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.—Ephesians 2.4-5

ADMIT: What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts…All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.—Mark 7.20-23

ASSURE: But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.—Mark 10.43-45


ACTIVATE: Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.—Philippians 2.3-4

MESSAGE NOTES:

BIG IDEA: LEGALISM ONLY MASKS OUR PROBLEMS, BUT GRACE TRANSFORMS OUR LIVES 

1. LETHAL LEGALISM—MARK 7.1–23

Legalism looks attractive… but is actually deadly.

“Legalism is a list of strict moral rules we believe make life better.”

  • It leads to comparing ourselves to others (Mark 7.1-8)

    • We measure our performance against someone else’s

    • We begin to feel superior instead of humble

    • Worship shifts from God to self

  • It hides the real problem (Mark 7.14-23)

    • The problem isn’t just external behavior

    • The problem is a defiled heart

Bottom Line: Legalism makes us think we can fix ourselves without God

2. TRANSFORMING GRACE—MARK 10.13–16; 10.35–45

Grace isn’t just a gift—it transforms

  • The Posture of Grace (Mark 10.13-16)

    • Come like a child

    • Dependent, needy, and humble

  • The Life of Grace (Mark 10.35-45)

    • The world says: elevate yourself

    • Jesus says: humble yourself

  • A life shaped by grace looks like:

    • Sacrifice over status & recognition

    • Helping others flourish no matter the cost

KEY INSIGHT: We don’t live for grace…we live from grace.
