LITURGICAL READINGS

ADORE: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace.—Hebrews 13.8-9

ADMIT: Has a nation changed its gods, even though they are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. Be appalled, O heavens, at this; be shocked, be utterly desolate, declares the LORD, for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.—Jeremiah 2.11-13

ASSURE: This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.Acts 4.11-12

ACTIVATE: Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. —Colossians 2.6-8

MESSAGE NOTES:

TITLE: GOSPEL DESERTION

SCRIPTURE READING: GALATIANS 1.6-9

BIG IDEA: THE GOSPEL YOU IMPROVE IS THE GOSPEL THAT CURSES YOU

1. DISTORTING DESERTION—GALATIANS 1.6-7

  • 3 Dangers of Desertion

    • Distorts Grace with Works (1.6-7)

      • Gospel distortion wants us to return to “the present evil age”

    • Troubles Us (1.7)

    • Desert God (1.6)

      • When we embrace Gospel distortion we lose God

“While morality can keep you out of jail, it cannot keep you out of hell. If morality could save you, then Jesus did not need to die.”—Merida, p. 23

  • We must always be on alert for false teachers

2. CURSED COUNTERFEITS—GALATIANS 1.8-9

  • 3 Markers of Counterfeits

    • Preach False Content (1.7b-9)

    • Claim False Authority (1.8-9)

    • Endanger Many (1.8-9)

  • Our love, acceptance, forgiveness are matters of grace not works
