LITURGICAL READINGS

ADORE: The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe.–Proverbs 29.25

ADMIT: Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.–John 12.42-43

ASSURE: Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.–Hebrews 4.16

ACTIVATE: So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.–2 Corinthians 5.9, 11

MESSAGE NOTES:

TITLE: APPROVAL

SCRIPTURE READING: GALATIANS 1.10

BIG IDEA: BELONGING TO CHRIST BREAKS THE GRIP OF PEOPLE-PLEASING

1. PLEASING PEOPLE—GALATIANS 1.10a

  • The root of controversy is people-pleasing

  • Pleasing God means persuading people toward God

2. SERVANT IDENTITY—GALATIANS 1.10b

  • Slavery to God heals what people-pleasing breaks

  • Servants deliver the message—they don't define it

What you are gripped by either breaks you or heals you
